What Is Joule? Understanding SAP’s AI Copilot
Joule is SAP’s generative AI copilot, designed to embed intelligence directly into everyday business processes. Rather than functioning as a standalone tool, Joule operates across SAP applications, helping users analyze data and automate tasks across systems using natural language.
Introduced as part of SAP’s broader Business AI strategy, Joule reflects a shift in how organizations engage with ERP systems. Instead of navigating complex interfaces, users can ask questions and generate insights conversationally.
WHAT IS JOULE?
Joule is embedded across SAP’s cloud ecosystem, including S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, and Customer Experience platforms. It connects to structured and unstructured data, allowing users to interact with systems in a more intuitive way.
Instead of navigating multiple dashboards, a user might ask “What’s causing delays in our supply chain this week?” or “Summarize our Q2 financial performance.” Joule processes these requests using natural language and returns contextual, role-specific insights.
WHY JOULE MATTERS NOW
Enterprise software has historically been powerful but not always intuitive. Employees often rely on training or IT support to complete even routine tasks, and Joule changes that dynamic. In fact, according to SAP, nearly 80% of the most-used business tasks can be supported by Joule’s AI capabilities, reducing friction and improving efficiency across functions.
For leaders, this signals a shift toward AI-first enterprise operations.
